Determination of surface basicity in zeolites and other materials with a high specific surface area
Summary
High surface area materials known as zeolites are comprised of a unique framework made of microscopic cavities. Aluminosilicate zeolite structures can be man-made or found in nature as rock deposits. Their high surface area and interlinked structure give zeolites an advantage over other materials in many applications. Zeolites are used in water treatment processes in part due to their ion-exchange and adsorption qualities which are dependent on their surface properties. The parameter of surface basicity can be measured by thermometric titration as shown in this Application Note.
