Feldschloesschen run their complete beer analysis using a combined titration and ion chromatography system from Metrohm.

Streamlining beer analysis on one platform

Feldschloesschen is the largest brewery and beverage retailer in Switzerland. The company's success is based on their priority to provide high-quality products. For this, the quality of the products, such as beer, is checked at many different stations.

With 2,000 bottles that are filled per minute, quality control can be a challenge for a QC laboratory. For a long time, the quality parameters in the beer samples were determined using separate analysis systems: a titrator, HPLC system, alcohol measuring device, and a density meter. The analyses, documentation, and archiving of the results all had to be handled separately, which resulted in a lot of work.

In addition, some samples had to be analyzed up to three times in order to obtain an accurate result depending on the measurement procedure.

A close collaboration with Metrohm resulted in a system that takes care of the majority of the required quality parameters, increasing the efficiency and reliabilty of the measurements.

The new analysis system combines various analysis techniques: ion chromatography and titration from Metrohm as well as alcohol, density, and color measurement from another manufacturer.

The instruments are all controlled by the tiamo titration software from Metrohm. This means that bitterness, citric acid, pH value, alcohol content, density, and color can all be determined by executing a single method in the software.
